Don't use Google Mail to test email aliases: sent mails vanish

If you setup a new email alias and want to test it then don't use Google Mail.

In order to save space gmail does not store duplicate messages, so messages sent to an alias that are redirected to your gmail account (via pop etc) simply vanish.

If you check the gmail logs (settings, accounts and import, view history) you can see it fetched the email, but then it simply discards it.

So its best to send the email using a separate client (such as swaks), this problem also appears with sub-domains
